Where to Eat like a Local in Hong Kong

How do you experience life as a Hong Kong local? Gate crash into the local hangout spots, of course!


I visit Hong Kong at least once a year. It’s like a second home to me so I am always on the lookout for authentic Hong Kong food. Eating like a local is not only a pocket friendly delight but your taste buds will thank you for not being short-changed by touristy menus.

Wah Cheong Noodle Restaurant

A favourite takeaway or eat-in spot for Taikoo Shing locals and office workers.

Signature dish: zongzi, congee, roast duck, roasted belly pork, char siu

Lau Sum Kee Noodle

Signature dish: shrimp roe noodles

If you have popped by too many times at Tim Ho Wan Sham Shui Po for dim sum and you fancy some noodles, do give Lau Sum Kee Noodle a try.

Yan Wo Dou Bun Chong a.k.a.人和荳品廠 (Canal Road Branch)

I always pop by here for a quick bite after checking out the bargain hunter’s treasure trove, Living Plaza By Aeon, a few doors down.

Signature dish: soy bean dessert (“Tau foo fa”), soy milk drink,  fried tofu, soy sauce noodles
